Welcome to WaterScore — Australia's Water Quality Dashboard
We’re thrilled to announce the launch of WaterScore — a free, independent resource that makes it easy to understand the quality of tap water in your suburb.
What is WaterScore?
WaterScore brings together water quality data from utilities across Australia and presents it in a clear, accessible format. Whether you’re curious about what’s in your tap water, comparing suburbs before a move, or researching filtration options, WaterScore gives you the information you need.
Every suburb gets a WaterScore — a single number out of 100 that summarises overall water quality based on key parameters like hardness, chlorine, pH, turbidity, and more. The higher the score, the better the water quality relative to the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines.
What’s covered?
At launch, WaterScore includes data for over 15,000 suburbs across every state and territory in Australia. We source our data directly from annual water quality reports published by major utilities including:
- Sydney Water — serving greater Sydney
- Melbourne Water — covering metropolitan Melbourne
- SA Water — across South Australia
- Water Corporation — throughout Western Australia
- Urban Utilities and Unitywater — in South East Queensland
- And many more regional providers
Each suburb page shows detailed breakdowns of individual water quality parameters, how they compare to national guidelines, and how your suburb stacks up against state and national averages.
How to get started
Getting started is simple. Use the search on our homepage to find your suburb, or browse by state or water utility. You’ll find a detailed breakdown of your local water quality, along with context about what each measurement means.
Want to dig deeper? Our glossary explains common water quality terms, and our articles cover topics from understanding water hardness to choosing the right filter.
What’s next
WaterScore is just getting started. In the coming weeks, we’ll be adding:
- A suburb comparison tool so you can see how different areas stack up
- Regular data updates as utilities release new reports
- More in-depth articles and guides
We believe every Australian deserves to know what’s in their tap water. WaterScore is here to make that information accessible, understandable, and useful.
